MORTON’S hopes of extending Jack Baird’s loan spell could be scuppered after St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin expressed interest in bringing the defender back to Paisley in January.
The Buddies boss has revealed that he might recall Baird for the second half of the season after being impressed with the form the defender has shown since his loan switch to Cappielow.
With Brian McLean nursing an injury and no recognised right back, this would be a big blow for David Hopkin who seemed set to look to extend Baird’s loan into the new year.
Goodwin told the Tele: “We’ve got an option to recall Jack if we feel that’s the right thing to do.
“Fair play to him, he could easily have sat around the club and dug his heels in as he’s got another year left on his contract.
“He could have stayed here and just been a part of the group.
“But he wanted to play games and I love it when young players have that attitude of wanting to play regularly.
“It’s one we’ll have to look at come January because he’s playing well.”
