MAN of the moment Kyle Jacobs has revealed he didn’t have to think twice about penning a one-year contract extension at Cappielow.

The midfielder signed the new deal after impressing in the Morton engine room in recent weeks.

Jabobs says he shares Ton gaffer David Hopkin’s vision for the future of the club and is now looking to kick on in the second half of the season.

He told the Tele: “I’m delighted, I’m really enjoying my time here so far. Obviously, I’ve known the gaffer for a long time and worked with him before, so it was a no-brainer when discussions came about to sign on for next year.

“I know what the gaffer wants and what his ambitions are for this club and that matches what I’m looking for, so it’s a win-win for both of us.

“I’m looking forward to kicking on under him and seeing where we go.

“I really like playing under the gaffer, and he was a driving force in getting me to commit to next year.

“It’s been great to play so many games under him and I’m just looking forward to playing more games and hopefully winning a lot more too.

“It’s different to last year, because at Queen of the South, contract talks were going on right up until the relegation play-offs.

“I’m delighted to get it done and out the way so early on, so I can concentrate on my football for the rest of the season.

“Things are starting to look up now for sure. I think you’ve seen that in the last few results that we’ve had, you can see that we’ve improved in all areas of the park.

“The last time we went up to Tannadice we were beaten by six goals, so to come away with a point, although it was a bit disappointing, it just shows how far we’ve come since then and improved as a team so hopefully we can keep that going.”

The midfielder believes that he is starting to get back to his best, but insists that there is room for improvement as he continues to build fitness as the season goes on.

He said: “I would say Morton is the best place for me to be just now, especially with what the gaffer is trying to do here.

“I’m enjoying my football so it’s a great place to be, especially with everything that’s going on at the minute.

“I’m starting to get fitter and play better as well. It’s been a good start to the year for me, especially scoring a few goals, so hopefully that can keep improving and we can get stronger.

“I feel as if I’m getting to a level that’s good enough, because I felt as if the best was still yet to come from me and it took me a while to settle in.

“I knew it could get better and I still think there’s room for improvement from myself, so hopefully I can continue to do that and help the team get better as well.”
