DAVID Hopkin has revealed he plans to open contract talks with his squad in the next few weeks.

The Morton boss says that he wants to sit down with his players to retain more of the first team squad for next season.

Hopkin insists that he is happy with the players at his disposal and says he has no intentions of adding to his pool of players between now and the end of the season.

He believes that he has all the cover he needs with the arrivals of Sean McGinty, left, Kris Doolan and Craig McGuffie in the past three weeks.

He told the Tele: “I think you just need to look at the squad of players that I have now, we’ve got a good balance in the team now.

“We’ve got players who can cover in all positions and if we were looking to bring in free agents then it would have to be somebody special and it would be hard to bring someone in as well.

“I’m delighted with the options I have at my disposal so I’m not going to be looking at bringing anybody until the summer.

“I think we’re at the stage now where everything is taking its course regarding contracts.

“We have to make sure that we’re speaking to players who want the best for Morton, which is all of them.

“Although, at the end of the day, it all comes down to finance. That’s going to be the key to everything that we do now.

“The players will play a massive part too, but we will sit down in the coming weeks with a few more players regarding next year.”

The Ton gaffer praised fans’ group Morton Club Together, saying that their monthly contributions show just what the club are capable of after they helped fund the three recent signings.

He hopes that the Ton’s good form will begin to repay the contributions of the fans.

He said: “Morton Club Together are massively important for the club.

“I think that the contributions that they make on a monthly basis is fantastic, because they’ve given us that platform to go out and bring in players in the shape of Kris Doolan, Sean McGinty and Craig McGuffie.

“I think that it works on both sides, Morton fans are fantastic in a number of ways.

“They come and support us home and away and they pay this contribution on a monthly basis.

“It is fantastic for us and for them.

“It just shows you what you can do off the park and as a club.

“We all just have to be thankful for the fans and hopefully the good run of form can begin to repay them.

“We are really grateful for the funding that they give us and it does make a difference.”
