MORTON youngster Alexander Easdale believes that his loan spell at BSC Glasgow can help him forge a path into David Hopkin’s first team plans.

The 20-year-old has sealed a six month loan switch to last year’s Scottish Cup shock troops - and he sees his Lowland League stint as the perfect opportunity to make up for lost time after the Covid-19 pandemic halted his progress towards the end of last season.

But Easdale is under no illusion as to how tough a task lies ahead of him as he looks to make his mark for Stephen Swift’s league-title chasing side.

He told the Tele: “It’s a big challenge for me as I’m going away out on loan for the first time but BSC are a big club and they’ve got a good project there.

“They’re obviously quite well known now after their run in the Scottish Cup last season where they played Hibs and that excites me.

“I felt as if I was a bit unlucky with the coronavirus and when it set in.

“I was doing so well with the reserves and scoring goals and I was hoping that I’d maybe get a few more opportunities to be in and around the first team training or even on the bench towards the end of the season.

“The pandemic put that to a stop which was obviously disappointing, but I’ve just got to put that behind me and really kick on at BSC now.

“The manager spoke to me about the move and it’s until January but there’s a lot of games between now and then with all the cups and league fixtures being played.

“I want to do well til then and can kick on there.

“Hopefully after that I can come back to Morton if it’s seen fit and then push to get back in and around the first team.

“There’s places to be won here.

"The manager said to me to go out to BSC and work hard there.

“He told me to continue to learn my trade and do what I do well, which is scoring goals, and we’ll revisit it again in January and see if I can fight for my place here.”

Easdale admitted that he has taken great confidence from ex-Ton man Thomas Orr, who starred for BSC last season and landed a to League Two side Stranraer after hitting a goalscoring streak.

He said: “Big Tam used to be at Morton and he was at BSC last season and did really well which earned him the move – so it’s clear that the Lowland League is competitive enough and good enough to make an impression on teams in the leagues above.

“I just hope that I can make the most of the opportunity because hearing things like that gives me more confidence to go and do as well as I can, work hard and really make an impact.”

The young striker highlighted the calibre of players being attracted to the Lowland League as a major factor in his switch as he looks set to test himself against household names.

He told the Tele: “There’s a number of big players in the Lowland League that I’ll be able to go and test myself up against.

"It's also guys who are going to be fighting for three points and win bonus money every week, so it’s going to be competitive.

“That can only help me because I’m hungry to play more games in and around a first team environment after my debut against Inverness last year.

“I’m just delighted to get this opportunity.

“I played in a bounce game with BSC last week and felt as if I did well, so I can't wait to get stuck in now in the league."
