DAVID Hopkin ramped up his pre-season preparations as Morton saw off Dumbarton in a 2-1 victory at the Rock in their first game in over six months.

Two second-half penalties from Robbie Muirhead and the returning Gary Oliver saw the visitors come back from behind after former Ton striker Denny Johnstone put the home side ahead in the first half in a behind closed doors friendly.

The game also gave Ton boss Hopkin the opportunity to run the rule over some trialists as he looks to add to his squad before the start of their Betfred Cup campaign against fellow Championship side Queen of the South on October 6.

The Tele understands that 26-year-old ex-Oldham and Czech central defender Tomas Egert starred in the first half as Hopkin looks to bolster his defensive options after the addition of St Johnstone defender Wallace Duffy.

The Tele also understands that 20-year-old former Ross County youngster James Wallace featured in the second half, winning a penalty which Oliver converted to give the Ton the victory.

Wallace is no stranger to Ton fans after impressing in both games against Highland League champions Brora Rangers last season in the Scottish Cup, initially as a substitute in the 1-1 draw at Cappielow and then in the 3-1 replay defeat at Dudgeon Park.
