MORTON lost their Betfred Cup opener on penalties as David Hopkin’s men returned to action for the first time in seven months.
Sean McGinty’s header gave the hosts a first-half lead before veteran striker Stephen Dobbie equalised for Queen of the South after the interval.
Aidan Nesbitt regained the lead for Ton after the break — but Connor Shields made sure the Group G clash would be settled on penalties.
