MORTON gaffer David Hopkin praised his side’s game management after they bounced back in the Betfred Cup against Queen’s Park.

The Ton moved to third in Group G thanks to Cameron Blues’ second-half strike as they saw off Ray McKinnon’s Spiders.

Hopkin was delighted with his players’ response after losing out on penalties last week to Queen of the
South.

He praised the defensive duo of Markus Fjortoft and Michael Ledger for their solid performances on their debuts.

He told the Tele: “It was a great professional performance from us today.

“I’m really happy that we bounced back from the Queens game last week.

“Results worked for us tonight, despite Partick winning the penalty shootout, and it was important that we did our bit in winning.

“I think that we should be topping the group with six points, but we’ve only got four and we’ve got to work with that.

“It’s a win, with a clean sheet and I couldn’t be happier with the boys who have all come in and made a really good impact.

“When I spoke to the boys two weeks ago, I told them that I’d be picking two teams and I thought that it was important that everyone got the same amount of game time.

“I thought in the first half we struggled a wee bit because I had to change the shape to accommodate everyone, but Queen’s Park never really hurt us with anything.

“We managed to change things up at half-time and I thought that the players that came on were fantastic.

“It’s pleasing to bring on that kind of quality of player from the bench.

“I thought Markus Fjortoft and Michael Ledger got better as the game went on and that’s the desire that we need in the side.

“It’s now my job to pick a team to go out on Saturday against Alloa.”
