MORTON'S Markus Fjortoft believes that showing a mean streak will be the secret to success this season.

The Norwegian says that recording two clean sheets already has boosted confidence as Ton look to continue their unbeaten start to the 2020/21 season at Dundee on Saturday.

Fjortoft says that he and his teammates’ backs-to-the-wall show in the final 15 minutes against Alloa has set the bar as to what is expected for the rest of the campaign.

He told the Tele: "Nothing comes for free and you saw how hard we had to defend at the end of that game.

“We need to show that we can be bad guys and hard players to play against in these types of games and put our bodies on the line when required.

“We know that that’s what required going forward, we’ve set out our foundations and just need to build on them now, starting against Dundee this weekend.

“Everyone was delighted to get that first win out of the way.

“The game gave us an idea as to where we are as a team and where we are compared to our opposition - Alloa are a good side to do that against.

“We were well prepared and showed that we are a hard team to beat, and I think that will get us far in the league this season.

“As a defence, I think you’ll struggle to find one taller than the one that played at the weekend and we know that we can use that to our advantage at both ends of the park."

The 26-year-old has settled into life at Cappielow very quickly and says it feels like home after only a matter of weeks at the club.

He puts that down to making a positive start on the pitch - and the warm reception he has received from the Ton faithful online after catching the eye with his presence at the back.

Fjortoft said: “I’m really happy with the way I’ve started here because you’re always a bit anxious to get going in your new surroundings.

“I’ll admit that I was nervous going into the first few games because I’m so desperate to make a good impression.

“I’m pretty honest with myself and I’d like to think I’d know if I’ve played well.

“I thought I did well against Queen's Park and that was pleasing as it eased some of those nerves.

"The feedback from the fans has been so appreciated, it really means a lot.

“It’s given me that extra bit of confidence to really feel at home here and hopefully I can kick on now.”
