I SOMETIMES question myself when it comes to my expectations for Morton season after season on whether I am a realist or too much of an optimist.

I always hope that our team will compete for a promotion play-off position, but lately the realism sets in that with our continuing budget reductions we really should be just trying to remain in the Championship.

Perhaps that is why David Hopkin continually mentions that survival is the main objective this season and perhaps that is why the players and manager seemed content with the point gained at Arbroath last week.

The manager gets to work with the players almost every day and he seems content to set us up in a defensive formation especially when playing away from home, which doesn’t seem to have been accepted by most of the Morton supporters watching the games on pay-per-view.

I personally will reluctantly accept our so-called defensive performances but it is not pretty to watch.

Ideally we will find a way to keep a solid defensive structure aided by utilising our few flair players resulting in success whether it be in the play-offs or securing Championship survival.
