MORTON shot-stopper Aidan McAdams is relishing coming up against old mentor Craig Gordon when Championship favourites Hearts come to Cappielow tomorrow.

Former Celtic and Rangers kid McAdams spent 12 months working alongside the Scotland custodian.

McAdams admits it will be a weird feeling sharing the same pitch as the ex-Celtic 'keeper, as opposed to fighting for the same place between the sticks.

He believes that the period spent working next to Gordon has helped shape his career after picking up good habits on and off the park.

He told the Tele: “It’s a massive game, there’s no doubt about it.

“Obviously the St Mirren game was huge because of the rivalry and with it being in the cup but Hearts are a massive club, possibly the third biggest in the country behind the Old Firm.

“It’s a proper big club and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and coming up against them.

“I worked with Craig Gordon in my last year up at Celtic so it’ll be a bit strange to come up against him.

“As a goalkeeper you’re fighting for one spot compared to a midfielder who’s maybe got three chances of being picked, so it’s going to be weird sharing a pitch with him.

“That’s something that happens in football, you come across former team-mates or coaches so it will be good to see a familiar face.

“I’ve never had a bad word to say about him, or anyone I’ve been lucky enough to work with thankfully.

“I always try to take any advice on board that anyone has to give me but it was a case of more watching on with Craig.

“He wasn’t necessarily the most vocal of people in terms of passing on bits of advice or telling you what to do but being able to watch him train every day, watch how he looked after himself and how he prepared for games.

“I took all of that on board and just tried to soak as much of it up as possible because he’s been at the top of the Scottish game for the last 15 years as well as playing for Sunderland.

“He can’t have done much wrong if that’s the case so hopefully that can help me as much as possible, starting on Saturday and beyond."

The Ton 'keeper acknowledges that he and his team-mates will be in for a tough afternoon but believes that his side are more than capable of causing an upset.

McAdams says they should take pride in their defensive efforts, having kept four clean sheets so far this season, level with what Danny Rogers and Sam Ramsbottom managed combined last term.

He said: "They’ve got a great squad full of international players – people who have played the game at the highest level.

“We’ll be going into the game with a plan to try and take something off them.

“As long as everybody is reading off the same hymn sheet, then we’ll be all good.

“It’s definitely achievable because defensively, bar the Raith game, we’ve been sound.

“I think I’m near the top of the clean sheets charts for the goalkeepers in the league.

“We’ve had two in the league and then two in the cup as well and I’m up there with the likes of Jamie MacDonald and the Ayr goalkeeper, which is really pleasing.

“It’s a good start to the season and we’ve worked really hard so far so hopefully we can continue to be hard to beat and make things uncomfortable for Hearts when they come to Cappielow tomorrow.”
