MORTON have announced a new contract for utility man Robbie Muirhead.

The player arrived at the club in 2019 and is currently in his second season at Cappielow and has become a key figure in the team in the recent period.

The 24-year-old has agreed to extend his deal until the end of the season.

The news will be a boost for interim boss Anton McElhone, who has lost both Josh McPake and Ross MacIver over the last 10 days.

The loan duo were recalled by their parent clubs Rangers and Motherwell.

A statement from Morton said: "We are delighted to announce that Robbie Muirhead has signed an extension to his contract that will see him remain at Cappielow Park until the end of the current season.

"Robbie has been at the club since the summer of 2019 and has featured heavily in the side since the start of the present campaign."

Boss McElhone added: "I am delighted that Robbie has signed this extension. He is a valued member of the squad and his recent performances have been excellent for us.

"The challenge for him now is to continue that progress.”
