RABIN Omar believes Morton are one of the fittest teams in the Championship this season.

And the midfielder has warned Inverness Caley Thistle that they will be going all out to prove it by giving the Highlanders a torrid time from the first whistle.

Omar, who featured as a second-half substitute in their 2-1 defeat against Queen of the South, says they're aiming to catch John Robertson’s side cold, with Caley being out of action since December 29.

The 23-year-old believes that they could have taken a point away from Palmerston after a second-half onslaught - but he stressed they need to start the game tomorrow night the same way as they finished against the Doonhamers on Saturday.

He told the Tele: “It was just one of those games when you’re on top and pushing for an equaliser - or even a winner - but the other side sit tight and hold it out.

“We had the chances to go and get another goal, we had the majority of the ball and we had them on the back foot for most of the second half, but we just couldn’t make them pay.

“Even though we were beaten, we got stronger as the game went on, which gives us something to take into the run of games coming up.

“That’s the kind of team that we are, we’re fit and probably one of the fittest in the league.

“That means that we’re going to be able to pin teams back late on in games going forward and that’s a quality that we’re going to need to make the most of.

“Having a game tomorrow is the best sort of remedy after a result like that, it gives us a chance to flush it out of our system.

“Inverness are another team who are going to be in and around us, so it’s the exact same motivation as we had at the weekend. We want to put some distance between ourselves and them.

“Inverness haven’t played for two or three weeks now so we can use that to our advantage.

“We need to make sure that we start the game well and pin them back, put them on the back foot and start the game the way that we finished on Saturday.”

Omar was keen to put personal plaudits aside after impressing during his second-half cameo at Palmerston.

While the former Elgin City midfielder was pleased with his own performance, he admitted it meant very little after Ton failed to stretch their unbeaten run to six games on Saturday.

He said: “I thought I did quite well when I came on. It’s alright saying that but at the end of the day it’s not a win and it’s not good enough in my opinion.

“Especially when you have the opportunity to put daylight in between yourselves and your opponents.

“We’re two sides who are probably going to be close to each other in the league, so we need to put daylight between ourselves and them and we’ve not managed to do that.

“It’s alright doing okay on a personal level, but after a result like that it doesn’t really mean much, you want the team to be coming away with something.”
