MORTON goal hero Cameron Blues hopes to return to top form in Anton McElhone’s side after overcoming coronavirus and injury ordeals.

The 22-year-old midfielder started the season in fine form, netting twice in as many home appearances under David Hopkin.

He was fast becoming a mainstay of the side before a nightmare period saw him sidelined with concussion and test positive for Covid-19.

Blues returned to the side on Wednesday night for the first time since November and marked his comeback with a goal as Ton fought back for a point against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

He told the Tele: “It was a great point for us against Inverness, especially when you’re playing for nearly over an hour with 10 men.

“I’m happy to get a point out of the game and hopefully we can kick on into Saturday now.

“I was delighted to get back into the team and onto the scoresheet as well, so I’m buzzing with that.

“That’s me got three this season, so after I got my first two I was trying to get to five as quickly as I could but then I got a concussion in training after the St Mirren game.

“Then, to make things worse, I tested positive for Covid about three or four weeks ago now, so it meant that I had to isolate.

“That was my first game since we played St Mirren back in November, so I’m just happy to come back into the side and mark it with a goal, hopefully I can stay healthy for the rest of the season now and keep scoring goals.

“I did feel it a bit in the first 15 minutes because I hadn’t played in so long, but after that I felt back to my normal self.

“I’ve not had the greatest of luck, but I just need to keep ticking away, stay positive and work hard and hopefully then you can get back in the side.

“We really came together and fought as a team, we said at half-time to stay in the game as long as we could, and we’d get a goal.

“We’re vocal and we’ve got leaders throughout the team, we just want to do well for the club.

“You could say that the squad is silencing a few critics with how well we’ve done this season.

“We’ve got a good team here and everyone in that dressing room knows how good a team that we are, we’re not surprised by it.

“We’re fine just flying under the radar and focusing on ourselves."
