MORTON boss Anton McElhone believes that his players showed their mettle to secure a precious point after they came back from behind with 10 men to draw against Inverness Caley Thistle last night.

The Ton boss hailed the spirit of his side, who originally took the lead early on through Sean McGinty, but were pegged back and found themselves behind after a quarter of an hour.

They then went on to play for over an hour a man short after Rabin Omar, right, was shown a second yellow before the break, with Cameron Blues rescuing a point in the second half.

McElhone told the Tele: “That was a massive point for us.

“It wasn’t just a spirited second-half performance, I think that we need to look at the full game from the first minute.

“We took the lead, could we have maybe done a bit better in not conceding two quick goals after? Yes.

“But we’ve lost a man after 30 minutes and if you look at what happened the last time that happened this season, we were beaten 5-0.

“We’re at home and Inverness are a good team and we’ve had a goal disallowed with another being cleared off the line in the dying minutes.

“We’ve scored a goal and played some good football, with guys who maybe haven’t played for a while too, which I think as a group, I think we’ve shown real quality tonight.

“That was 90 minutes of roll your sleeves up and get your tin hat on, that was tough tonight.

“If we lost that game like the weekend then we’d be disappointed and, in a slump, but we’ve bounced straight back.

“The guys have been brilliant tonight, big Gints [Sean McGinty] was fantastic, it was good to get Midge [Chris Millar] some minutes, despite being a player-coach, and he was excellent as well.

“It was a great team effort, that’s what gets us points, we’re as good a team as anyone in this league.”

McEhlone says he felt aggrieved to see midfielder Omar given his marching orders midway through the first half.

He believes that there wasn’t a lot in the tackle after he brought down Scott Allardice to prevent a Caley counter-attack from causing further damage.

He said: “I do think Rabin was harshly sent off.

“I don’t think it was in the slightest bit naughty and you’ve seen Lewis Strapp make a tackle at the weekend where you thought he could’ve been sent off.

“He’s made it and it’s a foul and I don’t think that the referee has realised that he’s already booked him.

“You can’t be disappointed, he’s just got to move on from it and his chance will come round again because he was so important for us against Queen of the South.”
