WHAT a difference a week makes in the life and times of Greenock Morton and their beleaguered supporters.

Before the current run of two defeats and a draw in the past week, we were daring to dream the dream of possibly making the promotion play-offs.

The latest results have most definitely placed us back amongst the relegation fight, especially as all the teams below us have at least one game in hand.

As the teams around us continue to add to their squads we have been sitting on the £500,000 pay out from the government and the extra savings from the salaries of our manager, coach and CEO resigning.

We also have returned two loan players to their parent clubs and now also have the additional salary of our retiring club captain.

You don’t need to be an accountant to identify these savings surely amount to a vast sum of money and hopefully it will allow Anton McElhone to add some much-needed fresh faces to the squad.

The current owners need to invest some of those savings or, as I have said previously, they will leave a legacy of relegating this once proud club.

Finally, good luck to Jim McAlister, pictured, on his retirement and thanks for the memories to one of my favourite Morton player of modern times.
