NEW Morton recruit Justin Johnson says he's determined to prove any doubters wrong after penning a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old believes that fans in Scotland have yet to see him at his best after frustrating spells at Dundee United and Hamilton Accies.

Johnson hopes that he can use the opportunity given to him by interim gaffer Anton McElhone after a difficult six-month stint at the Fountain of Youth Stadium under Brian Rice.

The Dutchman wants show his full potential as he looks to earn an extended deal beyond the end of this campaign.

He told the Tele: “I’m ready for any opportunity that Anton wants to give me.

"I’ve had to wait a while thus far and I'm looking forward to get going now.

“It’s a fresh start for me coming here and I just want to get going because there’s nothing worse than sitting on the bench for months on end.

“I want to be able to show the qualities that I have because I believe that I haven’t shown enough of in my time at Hamilton or up at Dundee United.

“I believe that people are still to see the best of what I can do and I hope that I can do that consistently here at Morton.

“I think Morton is going to be the best place for me to show just what I can do.

"People haven’t seen the best of me yet and I’m keen to show just what that is.

“It never really got going for me at Hamilton and I don’t really know why because I was doing well in training or whenever I’d come on and the coach had told me that.

“All of a sudden, he then tells me that I wasn’t in his plans and I didn’t get a reason. He didn’t say why but it is what it is.

“It was frustrating to be told that because I felt I deserved more of a chance because I was training and playing well and everyone was telling me the same.

"I hope that by coming here I can find myself, get my confidence back and really kick on until the end of the season when I can then hopefully extend my contract.”

Johnson says that watching his new team-mates secure a point against Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday has left him chomping at the bit to get his first minutes under his belt.

He hopes that he and his team-mates can build on the weekend's result ironically against old foes in the shape of Dundee.

He said: “I’ve trained for a couple of weeks and I’ve enjoyed it, so I just can’t wait to get out on the pitch.

“I saw the team play for the first time on Saturday there and they were very good.

“We worked hard and played some good football at times, defending as a team throughout.

“It was a great result for the club but to be honest it’s a pity that they never went on to win it because they deserved it.

“It was a great result and one that we can now look to build from.

“It’s funny that my first game could potentially be against Dundee. Hopefully I can get some minutes and get off to a positive start.”
