AIDAN Nesbitt admitted Morton showed Dundee too much respect earlier in the season - but he has warned James McPake's men it will be a different story at Cappielow tomorrow.

Ton fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Dens Park in October and the playmaker believes that it could have been a different outcome had they taken the game to the Dark Blues early on.

The playmaker wants to make amends tomorrow as Anton McElhone's men look to build on last weekend's 1-1 draw against league leaders Hearts.

Nesbitt told the Tele: “This is probably the biggest run of games that I’ve had since I’ve come back to the club and I’m really enjoying it, fingers crossed that can continue this weekend.

“I think we paid Dundee too much respect that day. If we’d gone for it, which we did in the second half, we’d have gotten more out of it.

“Even when we went down to 10 men, we were still chasing that goal.

"It was just unfortunate we couldn’t get it but we want to be putting these things right and that’s what we’re going to try and do tomorrow.

“That’s the great thing about football, we’ve got games coming up all the time just now and we’re looking to turn a corner.

"You just need a decent result to turn things around and hopefully the result against Hearts last week can do just that.

“You see it all the time, no matter how bad teams are doing sometimes a win can just change the momentum and turn your whole season around."

The former Celtic starlet feels as if he is starting to find his feet again after an injury-hit year as he looks to finish the season with a bang.

He said: “I was just getting back into the swing of things last year before the virus kicked in and suspended everything for what turned out to the best part of half a year.

“I’d started five in a row, scored three goals and was chipping in with assists too. Last season was just horrible with injuries.

“I’d broken my hand after the Dunfermline game and pulled my glute muscle around Christmas time, which was frustrating because I want to do well here.

“This season has been much better for me on the injury front and touch wood it stays that way.

"Hopefully if I keep playing as regularly as I have done, my performances can get better again.

“Hopefully we can start stringing wins together consistently because that was a great time to get a result like that against Hearts.”

Now that Nesbitt's injury problems are behind him, the ex-Dundee United winger wants to focus on helping Morton climb the table and finish the season in style.

He added: “I’ve hit that dip and now I’ve got to get myself back up and play with that level of consistency, playing well week-in, week-out.

“I’m fit enough to do it. I’ve got the minutes under my belt - I think I’ve only missed six minutes since the start of 2021.

“This is a chance to go and express ourselves going into the last 10 or so games.

“We know what we want to achieve as a group and where we want to go, we’re in a position of where we’ve got two games back-to-back to start that off.

“We’ve had Hearts and now the focus is on Dundee, these are the games you live for at this level.

"Hopefully we can kick on now and as a group we can finish things on a high.”
