LEWIS Strapp says that Morton are looking to make amends for their defensive lapses when they face Ayr United in what he feels is their biggest game of the season so far.

Ton are preparing to face off against the managerless Honest Men - who parted company with Mark Kerr at the weekend - before a trip north to the Highlands to face Neil McCann’s Inverness three days later.

The full-back revealed that he and his team-mates have reacted positively to the disappointment of conceding a late equaliser against Dundee and that the next two games is the perfect time to remedy their defensive problems.

He told the Tele: “It’s a big game for us on Saturday, there’s no doubt it. It's possibly the biggest of the season.

“We’ll need to be careful when we play Ayr because they could well have that spring in their step after their gaffer leaving.

“We were the same and even now we’re not playing that badly, it’s just the little things that are killing us and the league is so tight.

“We probably deserved three points for our performance on Saturday but we’ll just need to go out and make amends this time around.

“The boys are up for it, have no doubt about it.

“The standard in training has been really good for the first half of the week, we’ve had the bit between our teeth after conceding in the way we did against Dundee.

“We just need to forget about last week and move on from it we’ve got two big games coming up where we can put things right.

“We’re annoyed in the manner that we conceded the goals that we did, they were poor and we’ve spoken about it so we’re all looking forward to it.

“It would be the perfect time to get three points because not only would it put some distance between ourselves and Ayr, but it would also give us an injection of confidence as well.”

Strapp completed a dramatic fightback with a late winner in Ton's 3-2 win against the Honest Men in October.

The fans' favourite admitted that he is dreaming of popping up with the match winner for the second time this season.

He added: “In the last few games we’ve had spells where we’ve done really well and we’ve lost silly goals, so we need to clamp down on that.

“I’d love to score against Ayr in the same fashion as I did the last time we played them here.

“They’re quite similar to us in terms of stature of club in the league and as to where they are, so we’re usually in direct competition with them.

“It’ll be a challenge but we’re more than capable of doing it.

“It would be nice to have a complete performance against them this time around, especially after being held for a point down there.”

l Morton's second round Scottish Cup tie against Dunfermline will go ahead after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced yesterday that the suspension of football below the Championship has been lifted.

All clubs in the competition have been given permission to play subject to compliance with PCR testing requirements.

The SFA said that revised fixture dates will be announced as soon as possible.
