MORTON earned a priceless three points with a superb 1-0 away win over Inverness tonight.

The crucial victory ends a barren sequence stretching all the way back to mid-December and it hoists Ton up to sixth in the Championship.

Anton McElhone's men had been heavily criticised after falling into the drop zone with Saturday's loss to Ayr United, but they bounced back in style with what is only the club's second ever win at Caledonian Stadium.

The manager made three changes, with Markus Fjortoft, Reece Lyon and Kaz Sterling all coming in and acquitting themselves well in what was a terrific hard-working team performance in wet and windy conditions.

The goal hero was Aidan Nesbitt, who fired a fine low shot past Mark Ridgers in the 56th minute.

The visitors looked largely comfortable after going ahead but survived a late scare when Shane Sutherland's shot from just outside the box crashed off Aidan McAdams' crossbar.

Nikolay Todorov was offside as he knocked the ball home on the rebound and Ton saw the remainder of injury time out for a well-deserved victory.

They will now travel to Dunfermline on Saturday with renewed confidence as they look to stay clear of danger in the heavily congested league table.
