NEW Morton boss Gus MacPherson has made his first signing by taking Stephen McGinn on loan until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old midfielder will add some much-needed experience in the middle of the park.

The deal comes with Kyle Jacobs set for a spell on the sidelines through a calf injury.

Playmaker McGinn has made five substitute appearances in the capital for Jack Ross’s side this season, scoring once.

He has a wealth of experience under his belt, having spent two spells at St Mirren as well as time at Dundee either side of stints down south with Watford, Sheffield United and Wycombe Wanderers.

The newly appointed Ton gaffer handed the midfielder his professional debut at Love Street nearly fifteen years ago.

McGinn will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's clash with Dunfermline Athletic.

MacPherson said: “I’m really pleased that Stephen is coming to join us. It came about through a chance conversation with Jack Ross at Hibernian where I was explaining that we had injuries to a couple of our key midfielders and when he offered me Stephen, I almost fell off the chair.

"It’s an exciting signing for us and, having spoken to Stephen, he told me that he was really looking forward to getting out onto the pitch and being comfortable where he does his best work.”
