SEAN McGinty believes that Morton need two wins from their final four games if they are to secure their Championship survival.

The former Ireland youth international admits Ton have made life hard for themselves going into the relegation run-in after being on the wrong end of the 4-1 hammering to Inverness on Tuesday night.

McGinty described Tuesday night’s performance as the worst Ton have played all season as they dropped into the relegation play-offs for a second time this season.

Despite the massive setback, the defender believes that he and his team-mates have what it takes to stay up.

He told the Tele: “It was always going to be four tough games to finish the season.

“Dundee away and Hearts at home are two tough games back-to-back and then we have Alloa at home and Arbroath away to finish things off.

“We’ve got to make sure we win two of those games minimum and if we win two of them then we’ll be absolutely fine.

“It was mistakes that cost us on Tuesday night, we’re still level on points with Arbroath and it’s in our hands but we need to make sure we put in a much better performance away to Dundee on Saturday.

“We’ve got the strength of character to stay up, we’ve been doing quite well lately as well.

“I think that’s the worst we’ve played for a while and if we didn’t make those mistakes, we’d have probably gotten a draw out of the game.

“That was very unlike us, we weren’t tight enough as a group and to concede four goals at home isn’t good enough.

“We’ll need to pick ourselves up come back in today and go again on Saturday and make sure we put it right.”

McGinty admits that Tuesday’s performance was tough to take.

The defender believes it could have been a different game had he not missed a good opportunity at the start of the second half before Robbie Muirhead reduced the deficit.

While McGinty admits they have a difficult task ahead of them, he believes that he and his team-mates need to look for the positives if they are to have any chance of staying up.

He added: “Tuesday night was a tough one, we started well but the first two goals were terrible.

“Two individual errors have cost us and they go 2-0 up and it looked like it was going to be a long night.

“We got in to half-time with it only being two goals down and we’d started the second half brightly, I should’ve scored.

“We then do get a goal thanks to Robbie Muirhead but the third goal killed us and it was just a disappointing night all round.

“It’s an uphill battle from here really but it’s important that we keep things as positive as possible and recover well, analyse what we did wrong and make things right.”
