MORTON manager Gus MacPherson was delighted to come away from Dens Park with a point as his side's battle for Championship survival continued.

The Ton boss was pleased with the character of his players as they bounced back from the midweek hammering at home to Inverness.

While his side had victory snatched from them late on by Dundee defender Lee Ashcroft, MacPherson was relieved to have not lost any ground on relegation rivals of Ayr and Arbroath.

He told the Tele: “If somebody had said before the game that we’d come to Dens Park and take a point we’d have bitten their hand off for it because we’ve just gone and played a team that’s got aspirations to go and play in the Premiership next season.

“The main thing for me was more about the reaction from the Inverness game and I think that they’ve showed a really good spirit in among themselves and worked really hard for each other, so that was the most important thing.

“Results elsewhere have been the same as ours so nothing has changed.

“It’s a week of where nobody’s moved up or down the table, so we’re still in the same position we were when we kicked off at three o’clock on Saturday.

“We’re not focusing on anybody else, we’re just focusing on ourselves and on our own game.

“It’s a good point away from home, it doesn’t matter how you present it.

“We lost a couple of poor goals on Tuesday night and we also conceded a couple of top quality strikes to boot.

“That was maybe a little bit of the difference.

“We defended well up until Dundee got that opportunity but it wasn’t just the back four, it was the five in front of them and the striker up front.

“We defended from the front and made it very difficult for Dundee.

“It was a good finish from Aidan [Nesbitt] as well, a good striker's goal where he’s followed up and he’s in a position and he’s showed good quality to finish it off.”

MacPherson hailed the impact of the returning Kyle Jacobs and Markus Fjortoft who played key parts in coming away from Tayside with a valuable point.

The Ton manager was adamant that every player played their part in the result.

He said: “It was good to have guys like Kyle Jacobs and Markus Fjortoft coming back into the side and playing well.

“That’s what this group is all about, working hard for each other.

“It's not as if we don’t have plenty of players to pick from so there’s not an issue on that front.

“They all played a part, whether that’s Kyle, Markus or even Robbie Muirhead and we’ll take a lot of positives into the final three games.”
