PLAYMAKER Luca Colville has said that his contract talks are on hold as securing Morton's Championship safety is his top priority.

The English midfielder has impressed since returning to the side under Anton McElhone and has continued his fine form with Gus MacPherson at the helm.

With his contract up in the summer, Colville says any thoughts of his future at the club are on the back burner as Ton enter the home straight of the campaign.

He told the Tele: “I’d love to establish myself here at Morton but that’s not important right now, it’s about the results on the park.

“Obviously my contract’s out at the end of the season and I’ll just have to speak to the club and take things from there really.

“I’ve loved my time here it has been a great experience for me and I wouldn’t have changed any of it for the world.

“The boys have been class and when the fans were in it’s been brilliant with me as well.

“It’s all about keeping the club in the division just now and then taking things from there."

The 22-year-old believes that a change in position has helped bring out the best in him recently - but he insists picking up vital points is more important than personal plaudits.

He said: “I’ve played a lot of games now and for me that’s given me the opportunity to keep on learning and get used to the league.

“Under the gaffer now, I’m playing a bit of a different role and I’m not as advanced at times.

“Obviously I want to be getting into those areas to be creating or taking chances but I had to be more disciplined at times.

“It’s just been little tweaks to try and improve my game.

“In terms of my form I’ve been playing some of my best football since I’ve been up here but that’s irrelevant now because we need to start winning games.

“It’s getting to that time of the season where we’re struggling a bit now but I think that the performances are getting a lot better.”

Colville admits that a lack of composure in front of goal has cost his side when it’s mattered most during the season.

He is disappointed they haven't been able to produce a similar performance to the 4-0 win over Queen of the South at Palmerston in the latter stages of last season.

He said: “We just need to be a bit more composed and maybe classier on the ball.

“I think there’s been a few times where we’ve needed to score a couple of goals early on to get ourselves comfortable and we haven’t done that.

“If we’d have done that then you can get the belief that you can keep on scoring and we’ve not really had that.

“Last season we had Queen of the South away where we scored four goals with no reply and after that game we just had it in our minds that we could score in any game and go on a mad run that would’ve seen us get into the play-offs.

“This year, we’ve not really had a game like that and we just need to make sure that we take each game as it comes and just have a bit of composure in front of goal, be that bit more clinical and ruthless.

“That’s what we’ve missed this season and it’s hurt us when it’s mattered most.”
