MORTON’S Scottish Cup adventure was brought to an end in the most heart-breaking of circumstances as their gutsy performance was undone by a dreaded penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Motherwell.
Ton battled bravely to take Graham Alexander’s men to extra time and had chances to win the game within 90 minutes.
But two frantic minutes saw Scotland international Stephen O’Donnell fire the Steelmen ahead with what looked to be the winner with 120 minutes played before Markus Fjortoft’s header took the tie to spot-kicks less than 90 seconds later deep into time added on.
