MORTON manager Gus MacPherson has secured the services of Robbie Muirhead for another season after the striker signed a new one-year contract today.

The 26-year-old came into his own towards the end of last season and hit the back of the net five times in his last eight appearances, including a deadly double against Airdrie in the play-off final second leg.

He becomes the fourth player in as many days to commit his future to MacPherson’s side as he continues to shape his squad for next season.

Muirhead had previously told how he hoped his form in the run-in would help him turn a corner in his career after admitting being in a three-year rut.

He said: “I really hope I’m now beginning to turn a corner.

"If I am being brutally honest, I have been stuck in a rut for three years now.

“My confidence has been at an all-time low but now, after the last few weeks I now know I can still do it.

“When self-doubt creeps in it is really hard to get rid of, it can take over you at times but hopefully that’s the weight right off my shoulders and can kick on from now and get back to a level that I know I can perform at."
