KYLE Jacobs believes Morton are capable of being the Championship's surprise package this season.

The Ton skipper says they shouldn't be written off after coming from behind to secure a well-earned point against Dunfermline on Saturday.

With an exciting young crop of talent coming through the ranks and holding their own against one of the title favourites, Jacobs believes Ton can cause a few upsets this term and prove the doubters wrong.

He told the Tele: “The youngsters keep getting better and better which is great for the club going forward.

“Lewis McGregor has come in and done really well. He doesn't look out of place at all and got his goal on Saturday, as has Michael Garrity over the course of pre-season.

“We just want to be as positive as we can now and I don’t think that a lot of people will back us to do well this season. But we have actually got a good group here, so hopefully we’ll be able to surprise a few this season.

“It was important that we weren't beaten against Dunfermline and I hope that the result stands us in good stead ahead of what will be a long season."

The South African says it's an honour to take over the captain's armband but he insists his role hasn't changed too much since becoming skipper at the start of the campaign.

He added: “There might be a little bit more responsibility, but I wouldn’t say that anything has changed too much since becoming captain.

“I was always one to moan and shout regardless if it’s training or a game, but I’m honoured to have been asked to be captain."
