GARY Oliver says that Morton are happy to continue providing the shock factor when they travel to Lanarkshire to face Hamilton Accies.

After taking Championship favourites Kilmarnock to a penalty shootout in the League Cup and holding much-fancied Dunfermline to an opening day draw, the 26-year-old believes being written off in some quarters gives them extra motivation.

Oliver feels Ton have set the benchmark with their performances against Killie and the Pars and he is confident they can claim another positive result at New Douglas Park.

He told the Tele: “It’s going to be tough going through to Hamilton, but we drew against Dunfermline who have a squad good enough to go and match anybody in the league.

“We’ve shown that we’re more than capable of competing with and beating teams like that already as a group.

“Hamilton will feel like they won their game last week with the way that they came back from 4-0 down, but they’re not the only ones. We’re going into the game full of confidence as well.

“We’ve made a statement with our performances against Kilmarnock and Dunfermline in particular that we’re going to be no pushovers and that teams are going to have to work extremely hard to take three points off us.

“It just goes to show that we’re a good side and that people underestimate us, which is probably a good thing.

“It gives a bit of extra motivation going into the game.

“You hear people saying that Hamilton are the recently relegated team and will be going all guns blazing to go back up first time of asking - but that only works in our favour.

“We want to keep proving people wrong and going under the radar.

“We’ve got a good group of boys who are willing to stick together and we’re all good mates, that’s half the battle.

“I’ve been in dressing rooms before where we’ve got to the play-offs with groups like this, a good group of boys in a small squad who are more than good enough to have a good season.

“Getting beaten is a habit you don’t want to get into and we’ve managed not to fall into that trap yet this season in the games that we’ve managed to play.

“It’s a good sign that we’ve come up against a good variation of opposition and still not been beaten in 90 minutes yet.

“I’ve said it before, if we can pick up some more goals, which it looks like we will, then we’ll hopefully be picking up a few more victories this season.”

Oliver sympathised for fellow attacker Gozie Ugwu whose search for a maiden goal goes in Morton colours continues.

The 26-year-old predicted big things are still to come from the attacker going forward.

Oliver said: “Big Goz has been brilliant the last few games and he’s done everything bar score.

“He’s hit the inside of the post, got poleaxed and I’m the one who has benefitted with the penalty last week, so I can't complain too much!

“In all honesty, he has been brilliant and very unlucky not to find the back of the net.

“I’ve been in those situations before where you’re playing well and you just cant hit the net, it happens.

“It will all change sooner rather than later, I’m sure of it.”
