IT was interesting to read in the Tele last week that Gus MacPherson is happy with the midfield and is looking to strengthen both the defence and attack before the transfer window closes.

And whilst I cannot disagree with the need to strengthen in those areas, I think the distinct lack of a creative midfield player really stands out for me.

On Saturday against Queen of the South I can barely remember the few times we played football through the midfield and therefore created any decent chances.

In my opinion we huffed and puffed but, even with the honest endeavour and effort of the players, we are crying out for someone to put the foot on the ball and dictate the play.

I don’t think the players played badly, but to consistently turn close games in our favour we will require that certain individual who can dictate the play and that might just be the difference this season between survival and relegation.
