JACK Hamilton hopes that his clean sheet against Ayr United can give Morton a platform to build on as he looks to finish the first quarter on a high.

The former Scotland Under-21 international’s heroics between the sticks helped Ton pick up their first point since beating Hamilton Accies on August 7.

The shot-stopper believes Ton have a squad capable of competing higher up the Championship table and hopes they can use Saturday's draw as a turning point.

He told the Tele: “It’s always nice as a goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet but it’s a tough league, so it’s pleasing to pick up a point away from home and give us a platform to really go and kick on.

“It’s good to buck the trend of defeats that we were on but if you look at the season as a whole so far, it’s been a very tight league with everybody beating everyone.

“It will go right down to the wire but we’ve shown that we’ve got a good squad of boys here in the dressing room.

“We’re beginning to gel and get used to each other.

"The potential is there for us to go and do well, so hopefully this result means we can kick on going into the end of the first quarter.”
