MORTON were cruelly denied their first league win in six attempts after Michael McKenna’s dubious penalty snatched a point for high flying Arbroath at Cappielow.

Morton Club Together had hoped for a large turnout and a winning start to the new era for the club under community ownership.

However, thedreich weather took a hit on the crowd of only 1,100 as man in the middle Craig Napier’s controversial spot-kick decision saw the Red Lichties snatch a point.

Ton went into half-time a goal down thanks to Colin Hamilton’s header late on in the first half.

Their spirited second-half comeback looked to have them home and hosed after two strikes in 10 minutes from Gary Oliver and Cameron Blues, before McKenna sent Dick Campbell’s side back up to Angus with a point.
