GOZIE Ugwu hopes that he can put his injury frustrations behind him to help fire Morton back up the Championship table.

The 28-year-old returned from an ankle problem in dramatic fashion by heading home a last-gasp equaliser against Hamilton Accies after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The former Raith Rovers hitman admitted he has found it difficult watching from the stands in recent weeks.

Ugwu now hopes Saturday's performance can be the start of a run in the Gus MacPherson's side as he looks to boost Ton's goalscoring threat.

He told the Tele: “I had a high ankle sprain that kept me out for a few weeks, so I tried to come back a bit early in the Arbroath game and to be fair, it did feel okay.

“You couldn’t have written it though. It was the first header that I'd gone up for in that game and I landed on it in the same way when it really wasn’t properly healed yet.

“That made it worse and resulted in me needing to take more time out which was extremely frustrating.

“I’ve been so eager to play and I'm desperate to help out when I can and in anyway that I can.

“While I was completing my rehab I was desperate to train, so I hope I've been able to do my bit after the goal at the weekend."

Ugwu revealed he was unsure if he would be ready for the Accies clash after only completing his first training session the day before the big game.

He said: “Friday was my first training session, so I wasn’t even sure that I was going to play against Hamilton, but I was just delighted to get back out onto the pitch.

“Adrenalin just got me through to be honest. You don’t really think about anything else, so I hope I can just continue from here now and get back to my best and fully firing.”

Ugwu believes Morton managed to show their attacking capabilities after causing Accies' defence problems in the second half on Saturday.

He hopes that he and his team-mates can build on the performance as they look for a positive result in the six pointer against Dunfermline this weekend.

He added: “Jimmy [Knowles] got in behind a few times and I was in and around there too.

“Robbie Muirhead had one cleared off the line, so I think when you look at it that way we were the better team.

“We had the better opportunities and the goal that we got at the end was more than deserved I feel.

“It just goes to show what we can do, we had positive players in every position on the park and again we finished off really well.

“We just need to take that into the next game and make sure that we start that in the way that we finished this one.”
