GOAL hero Gary Oliver has revealed Morton players turned their frustration into extra motivation to secure their crucial victory over Dunfermline.

The Ton striker says they carried a sense of injustice going into the must-win encounter at East End Park after being on the end of bad luck and poor refereeing decisions a number times this season.

Oliver admits that it would be easy to feel hard done by with the way things have gone this season - but he believes their recent disappointments turned out to be the inspiration behind their 3-1 victory.

He told the Tele: “I think we did well to put all of our frustrations of the last couple of weeks into this performance against Dunfermline.

“I wouldn’t like to think what would’ve happened at the weekend if we hadn't have won that game, because we’d have been bottom of the league.

“It really was a massive win for us.

“It all started against Arbroath when we had a penalty cost us three points in the last minute after we worked so hard in the game.

“We were frustrated not to have beaten Dunfermline at the start of the season too, so that did play a part. It is just a huge relief to get the three points."

Oliver hopes that his side have now found their clinical edge as he looks to put an end to the draws that have halted Ton’s season so far.

He said: “Last week we brought on the three attackers who started the game against Dunfermline.

"We wanted to start the Dunfermline game in the way that we’d finished the Hamilton one, on the front foot and by getting the ball in the back of the net.

“We created a lot of chances against Dunfermline and we managed to score three goals.

"That’s something that we’ve not been doing recently, so it's really pleasing to have taken our chances this time around.

“We’ve been frustrated with the amount of draws that we’ve had because this league is just so tight.

“Draws are as good as defeats in this league especially, so to get three points like we did at the weekend was massive and it showed as we moved above Queen of the South.

“I’m delighted for the boys who have worked so hard over the last few weeks to put things right and it’s now finally paying off."

Oliver hopes that his side can use the victory to kick on in the second quarter of the season.

He believes that the result has given his side a new-found confidence that has been missing over the last few weeks.

He said: “We’ve been playing well, but just not had a lot of wins this season.

“It shows you that simply, we have just drawn too many games.

“It’s up to us now to start turning those draws into three points.

“We needed that win just to get that bit of confidence in ourselves, so hopefully we can use this to kick on now.”
