GREENOCK Wanderers will have one eye on events in Ayrshire tomorrow as their two nearest relegation rivals go head-to-head, writes John Dyer.

With all their fixtures up to date and not having to use the two standby dates in the calendar, the Fort Matilda senior men have a second free weekend.

Despite being out of action, it's a significant week for Grant Sweenie's men as Ardrossan face a massive game against fellow strugglers Strathmore who are just above Wanderers and three points ahead of the Ayrshire team.

Something will have to give and the worst case scenario is if Strathmore lose Ardrossan can leapfrog Wanderers off the bottom of the league.

Wanderers have been buoyed by the good performance in their last game away to Lasswade, who are top of the league and undefeated.

Training has gone well since that game and hopefully they can carry this forward to next week when Berwick come to Fort Matilda.

The Scremerston men lie second top, so there will be no room for error as Wanderers look to gather some points to lift them away from the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Greenock Wanderers Ladies have a massive home game against Glasgow University this Sunday at 2pm. Fans are encouraged to come along and cheer on the ladies.

l Greenock Wanderers senior men are sponsored by MM Search and the ladies squad is sponsored by Straps of Gourock.
