THE Tru Wealth Young Athletes Road Races returned to Greenock’s Battery Park and was the ideal test for Greenock Glenpark Harriers' young athletes to test themselves against the country’s best.

The under-13 boys' team of Jonathon Lamont, Grant Munro and Oscar Boyce can be proud of their performance with their 10th team place in a national championship.

Jonathon has been growing in confidence all season, and this showed through with his strong finish as he led his team home.

He was ably backed up by Grant and Oscar, who was making his club debut.

Ava Lyle, who has been making steady improvements this winter, continued that form with another fine run in an excellent time for the 3km.

The under-15 youngsters competed over 4km, and it was successful day for Summer Taggart , Maria McCabe and Erin McEleny who took sixth place in the team competition, with Summer leading the girls home.

Oliver Boyce - making his debut in a national competition - showed plenty of promise with a solid performance.

It was a hat-trick of personal bests over the 5km distance for the Harriers' under-17 athletes, well-deserved reward for this group who have been consistently training hard over the winter months.

Ruby McGill finished in 19th place while in the boys' race Jude Dolan, in 22nd position, came within a whisker of breaking the 17-minute barrier and the improving Kyle Johnstone with a well-paced run followed close behind.
