MORTON will be playing Championship football once again next season despite falling to a defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Cappielow.

With Dunfermline and Ayr United both failing to win, the Ton can no longer be caught by the sides below them in the table and can now start preparing for life in Scottish football’s second tier next season with a game to spare.

Roddy MacGregor’s 29th-minute strike was enough for Billy Dodds’ side to leave Sinclair Street with all three points.

However, the turnaround under Dougie Imrie has been complete, despite back-to-back defeats, as he has guided the Greenock club to cinch Championship safety, completing a remarkable upturn since he took over the side back in December.
