INVERCLYDE Cricket Club’s 2022 season starts this weekend with a home fixture against Galloway Seconds at Gourock Park tomorrow.

Inverclyde return this year to Division 4 after playing in the combined Division 3/4 league in 2021 due to Covid-19 factors.

Gareth James, pictured, is captain again for this season, although misses out on the opening game due to work commitments.

But he is able to name a strong side for tomorrow, and will look for a winning start from his team.

This includes a debut for the hard-hitting Matt Walton who has transferred registration from Renfrew.

The following players should report to Gourock Park at 12.30pm – C. Gunn, S. Blair, S. Callison, S. Campbell, D. Cooke, C. Dick, D. Mudie, D. Pilkington, D. Thomson, M. Walton, T. Watson, C. Roffe.

l Coaching for Inverclyde’s junior section continues indoors on Saturday mornings until the end of May at St Columba’s High School in Gourock from 10.30am to noon.

Inverclyde Cricket Club are keen to increase the number of junior cricketers in the local area, and have experienced qualified coaches available to teach the skills of cricket.

These sessions are free to attend, with all equipment being provided by the club.
