KYLE Jacobs believes Morton can aim higher next season following their turnaround in the second half of the campaign under Dougie Imrie.

The captain says there are plenty of positives to take since the Ton manager took charge in December and he is confident their upturn in form will stand them in good stead going into the new season.

While Jacobs knows how difficult the second tier will be, he insists anything is possible if they get off to a flying start.

He told the Tele: "If we started like we did when the gaffer came in then we would be top table half of the table anyway.

"It is something we can work on. We know what the gaffer wants and I am sure he knows what players he wants in as well.

"It is just about taking a break and coming back and hitting the ground running.

"With the second half of the season that we have had, we can take a lot of positives.

"There are a few boys signed up already, and hopefully we get a few more signed on or new boys brought in and see where we can go."

The South African will be keeping a keen eye on the play-offs over the next couple of weeks to see who Ton will be up against next term.

With the likes of Cove Rangers moving up from League One, Jacobs knows how difficult next season will be no matter who is in the division.

He said: "It is going to be tough again. Obviously with Cove Rangers coming up they will be another difficult team.

"We don’t know who is going to come up through the play-offs, whether it is Dunfermline staying up or someone new coming in.

"This league gets harder so we just need to come back and work on what we have done well and what we haven’t done well and hit the ground running and see where it takes us."

A much-changed Ton were beaten 3-0 by Arbroath in the final game of the season on Friday as Imrie used the opportunity to ring the changes and give opportunities to some of the fringe players with safety already secured.

Making his first appearance since March, the 30-year-old says it was a disappointing way to close out the season but he insists it’s something all the players involved can learn from.

He said: "We were told to go out there and take our chance really, because all of us hadn't had not much game time.

"It was about showing that we can do it on a Saturday, but at the end it was disappointing.

"There was a lot of inexperience in the line-up but we just need to learn from this and take it into next season."
