MORTON fans have been urged to dig deep to help boost boss Dougie Imrie's budget for new signings this summer.

The Ton manager has offered new deals to a number of his out-of-contract stars and is also considering possible new recruits as he looks to rebuild ahead of his first full season in charge.

But Imrie has hinted that finances at Cappielow could be tight, telling the Tele that 'we have a massive job on our hands to get players to the club'.

Now the Ton's owners, fans' investment group Morton Club Together, have directly appealed to supporters to help the manager in the transfer market by boosting subscriptions.

The organisation has ploughed more than £400k into the coffers since being set up in 2019, thanks to a generous 900-strong band of supporters who are making one-off and monthly pledges on top of buying season tickets, merchandise and sponsorships.

Morton Club Together has praised those investors - and asked them to consider upping their pledges if possible.

They said: "We've achieved a lot in three years with your support.

"Greenock Morton is in community ownership, we have control of Cappielow and the club's debt has been wiped out.

"We're still a Scottish Championship club as we end our first season of community ownership, another terrific achievement that was in no small part down to the arrival of Dougie Imrie.

"To stay up from where we were ahead of his first game in charge just after Christmas was one of the stories of the season."

Bosses at MCT say they are on a drive to boost commercial activity at Cappielow and bring in more revenue.

But they are hoping that some supporters will be in a position to increase their contributions, as they also try and hit a target of reaching the 1,000-members milestone.

In a plea to fans, MCT said: "Attention immediately turns to next season, and the manager needs your backing.

"So far you've contributed over £400,000 to the club through your monthly and one-off payments, an incredible amount and we're thankful to every one of you for that.

"The reality of community ownership is that there's no longer one wealthy individual propping up our club, writing off any losses and supplying funds whenever the club is in need.

"The 930 MCT members are now that individual - the fans choosing to buy season tickets, club kits or even a pie at half time are now that individual.

"We're in control of our own destiny as a fanbase.

"Every single penny counts in the Greenock Morton board being able to build out next season's budget to run the club and to build Dougie's squad.

"Every single penny from MCT members goes directly into that overall club budget.

"We know times are tight, the club has been hit with increasing bills just like the rest of us, but we would like to take this opportunity to ask our current MCT members to consider increasing your monthly contribution, or even to make a one-off contribution."
