NEW Morton signing Carlo Pignatiello says re-uniting with Dougie Imrie made moving to Cappielow a no-brainer.

The utility man completed the switch to Greenock on a pre-contract agreement from Livingston yesterday.

The 22-year-old signed a two-year deal from the Lions and credited the Morton manager for making the move an easy decision.

The pair worked together at Almondvale when Imrie was Livi's first team coach and Pignatiello says he is delighted to be working with the 38-year-old again.

He told the Tele: "I am buzzing - it is good to get it done early.

"Something you don't want to be doing when you are without a club is waiting about, or worrying and things drag on.

"I was happy Dougie phoned me early once I knew I was away from Livingston, so I was just buzzing to get it done and sorted for next season.

"I knew Dougie from playing at Livingston.

"He gave me a phone to come and I was excited to do that.

"I like working with him, and I know a few boys that have played with Morton, and everybody has had good words to say about the club.

"I was desperate to come and it is local to me, it suited me in every way.

"I know how his training and I know what type of person he is.

"Moving to Morton works perfectly for me and I am really happy with it."

Known as a utility man for his ability to play in a number of positions, the former Arbroath loanee hopes his versatility can be an asset to Morton next season.

Pignatiello said: "I am just happy to play.

"As long as I am in the team, I am happy.

"Wherever the manager wants me to play, whether that is centre mid, right back, I will play anywhere and try and do my best for the team."

Pignatiello spent last season on loan at Dumbarton which ended in disappoint with the Sons relegated from League One via the play-offs.

However, his efforts were rewarded and picked up the club's young player of the year, players' player and Sons View player of the year awards.

He said: "It is obviously something good to look back on and to say the fans thought I had a good season.

"But it is disappointing because I was desperate for the team to stay up and we haven’t done that, so if I am honest I don’t look back on it being a good season.

"To win awards is nice but it was still disappointing overall."

After loan spells at BSC Glasgow, Stranraer, Arbroath and Dumbarton, the midfielder is happy to finally get a permanent move and look forward knowing where his future lies.

He added: "It was good to get a deal where it is permanent and it is not a loan.

"If you’re going into two clubs and you’re trying to impress at two places, it isn't always easy.

"Morton is somewhere for me to try and kick on now.

"I have got a good club here and it is now a case of trying to do well for them and solely focus on doing well for Morton."
