BILLIONAIRE Greenock businessmen Sandy and James Easdale are today staying tight-lipped on links with a potential investment in Morton.

Ton owners Morton Club Together have revealed that up to three mystery investors have come forward wanting to pump cash in at Cappielow.

One company has indicated it is after a 14 per cent stake, while two individuals have declared an interest in snapping up smaller blocks of shares of around five per cent each.

MCT say the identity of the potential shareholders 'cannot be disclosed' at this point due to commercial confidentiality,

The Easdale brothers - last week named as the latest entrants to the Scottish rich list with a fortune estimated at £1.3bn - have been heavily linked locally with a possible deal.

They have been backers of the club for several years and are the current shirt sponsors, with Sandy Easdale a regular in the directors' box at home matches.

When the Tele approached the Easdales' representatives to ask if they were one of the interested parties they did not address the question or rule it out, simply confirming that they would be continue to support the club over the coming months.

The Easdales' spokesman said: “Sandy and James will remain as the club’s main sponsors again this year.”

Bosses from MCT have arranged an extraordinary general meeting of their 900-plus membership, where they will recommend that they are given permission to sell off groups of shares to the business and individuals interested.

They have said that the club will remain under MCT majority ownership and guaranteed its stake will not drop below 50.1 per cent.

MCT chiefs say they believe the move will 'enhance community ownership', as new investors will be required to match the yearly contributions coming from fans, which are currently at the level of £180k per annum.

The EGM is to take place on June 7.
