CAMERON Blues has revealed he knocked back offers from other clubs before signing a new two-year deal to stay at Morton.

The midfielder was one of eight players who had either been offered a new deal or were in discussions with the Greenock club.

But he has put any doubts over his future to rest after committing himself to Dougie Imrie’s side.

The 24-year-old, who has been at the club since 2019, says he could have explored options elsewhere but he feels he has made the right choice - with the manager having a big influence on his decision.

He told the Tele: "I am happy to commit my future to Morton.

"I feel like I had a good end to last season.

"I'm just looking to build on it again and hopefully the team kicks on.

"There were a few options, but I felt Morton was the right one.

"I'm just looking to try build on last season and keep my confidence high.

"The manager was a massive factor in staying.

"I feel I have done well under him.

"He has given me a chance in the team and hopefully I can repay him by staying and getting a few more goals next season as well."

Blues hopes some of the other players with contracts on the table will follow suit and commit their futures to the club.

He said: "It was just a case of taking my time. Obviously I was waiting for the club to make a formal approach.

"I think it was a wee transitional period for the club, so it was just about being patient and taking my time with my decision.

"Everyone’s situation is different, boys have got kids and families.

"I just live with my missus, it was just about making sure we did what was right for us.

"Some team-mates have kids and they need to look at options. Everyone just looks after themself, which you need to do in football sometimes, but hopefully they stay."

The Ton midfielder hopes the club can add to the signings of Carlo Pignatiello, Jack Baird and Darragh O'Connor in the summer transfer market.

Blues added: "I played with Bairdy a couple of years ago.

"He is a great signing. I thought big Darragh was good for Queens last year as well, and I trained with Carlo at Livingston, so I know that he is a good versatile player.

"Hopefully we can make a few more and the manager is backed so that we can kick on because the other clubs aren’t messing about with their signings.

"Hopefully we can keep up with them and kick on."
