ROBBIE Muirhead says his new deal at Morton gives the stability he is looking for in his career after committing his future to the Cappielow club.

The Ton striker joined fellow team-mate Cameron Blues in putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal on Monday.

The Greenock club are still waiting on responses from six other players who have offers on the table - but Muirhead is now happy to put his mind at ease and focus on the new season ahead of the squad returning to pre-season training on June 15.

He told the Tele: "I am very happy, it gives me a bit of stability which I’ve not had in recent years.

"In probably the last four years I’ve only been signing one-year deals at clubs.

"It’s a lot of weight off my mind. I like to think I don’t really worry about it but subconsciously I do.

"Now it is settled and sorted for the next two years I can just concentrate on football."

While the 26-year-old took time to reflect on the offer that had been on the table for a number of weeks, Muirhead insists he never looked for a move away from Cappielow.

He said: "There were no complications, it was pretty straightforward.

"There is a lot of change happening in my life at the moment, so I had to really think and reflect on what would be best for me and my family.

"I didn’t really look into going elsewhere.

"I wanted to stay here and gave the club the first opportunity to sign me."

The former Hearts man says he has got on well with Dougie Imrie ever since the Ton boss came through the door last December.

And Muirhead believes the good relationship he has with the Ton boss helped him lift his performance levels in the second half of last season.

He said: "It was easy for me to play for the gaffer and the club.

"Nothing really different was said from what he has been telling me for the last six months.

"I wouldn’t say I’ve enjoyed it more because I've always enjoyed.

"I just think that I turned the corner in terms of my performance and it’s allowed me to play more."

The ex-Dundee United man has been in touch with a few of his Ton team-mates in the close season and hopes the players who have still to decide their futures will remain on Sinclair Street.

He also hopes the club can keep making improvements to the squad as they look to build on their seventh-place Championship finish last season.

He added: "There are still areas of the team that need strengthening.

"Quality over quantity will be needed again.

"I speak to [Cameron] Bluesy regularly and big Al [Lithgow] and I’ve spoken to Jacko [Jack Hamilton] a bit and hopefully he stays at the club.

"Here’s hoping we can improve on where we finished last year.

"The run we went on was unbelievable, if we can try and even get close to replicating that I’m sure we’ll be heading in the right direction."
