YOUNG shot-stopper Joshua Bysouth admits missing out on a new deal at Morton came as a massive blow - but has no regrets over his short time in the Cappielow first team squad.

Bysouth was left disappointed by the news he wouldn’t be offered a new contract to stay at the club having left on the expiry of his deal last month.

The goalkeeper, who signed his first professional contract back in February, didn’t make a single first team appearance for Dougie Imrie’s side having been understudy to first choice goalkeeper Jack Hamilton.

The 18-year-old says it was hard news to take - but he says he has to move on from the disappointment as he goes in search of a new club.

He told the Tele: "It was just after the Arbroath game I went home and then I came in on the following Monday and spoke to David Scott, the goalie coach.

"We went over my gym results over the past few months and then just got told there wasn’t a contract there for me next season.

"Obviously I was gutted because it is a dream come true to play football every day, but it is just one of these things and it didn’t work out."

Despite the frustration of watching on from the sidelines, Bysouth believes the experience of being number two to Ton player of the year Hamilton will stand him in good stead as he makes his next move in his career.

He said: "I enjoyed every minute of it, especially working with David and Jack every day.

"They helped me since I started training with them back in September.

"It was good to learn off the experienced defenders in front of me, they always helped me out.

"Obviously it is difficult when you have someone like Jack Hamilton playing in front of you, the chance of playing isn’t very high.

"But it was still good to just sit there and watch Jack every week and learn off him.

"The things he has taught me off the park and on it will definitely help me in my career."

The young shot-stopper says the ideal situation would have been to remain at the club and get a loan spell next season to get regular first-team action under his belt.

He said: "That was the ideal plan, just come in every day, then also go out and get much-needed game time.

"At my age, being an 18-year-old goalkeeper, I desperately need to play week-in, week-out.

"I thought a loan move would have been perfect."

The Stevenston lad says his next move remains up in the air for now.

The former Ton 'keeper says he would be happy to move down to the West of Scotland League to gain valuable experience but he is determined to return to the SPFL in future.

Bysouth said: "I am pretty much just taking my time and hearing what clubs down in Ayrshire are saying and also looking further afield.

"But it is still up in the air where I am going to be playing.

"That is what the junior clubs down in Ayrshire are saying to me.

"It is a few steps down but you would be coming here playing week-in, week-out, being in the shop window then it is down to you to get yourself back up the divisions."
