JAI Quitongo says he's delighted to get his return to Morton over the line - six months after a January move back to Cappielow fell through at the last minute.

Manager Dougie Imrie hoped to sign the frontman from Queen's Park on the final day of the transfer window, but the deal couldn’t be completed in time.

Quitongo returns to Greenock where he spent three years between 2015 and 2018.

He is happy the deal has been completed and wants to focus on the upcoming campaign.

He told the Tele: "I was actually meant to go to Morton in January, but it was the last day of the window and we couldn’t get it all sorted.

"But I have been in touch with the gaffer ever since then, and he obviously said he wanted to get something done and get me in.

"I just wanted to get it done as soon as possible.

"The gaffer has similar principles to me towards football, and I know his assistant Andy Millen very well, so it was a no-brainer.

"It was just about getting everything sorted.

"I was meant to sign before pre-season started, but it was easy enough once it got sorted and I'm delighted that I'm officially a Morton player now.

"Once I left Queen’s Park Dougie Imrie was the first one to be on the phone.

"I just wanted to get it done and get settled somewhere and get pre-season under my belt and then wait for the games to start."

The 24-year-old signed a one-year deal on Monday and adds to Ton's forward options for the season having lost strikers Gary Oliver and Gozie Ugwu earlier this month.

Having made 15 league appearances for Queen's Park last season, Quitongo is hopeful of getting more matches under his belt and proving that he is still the player he was during his first spell at Cappielow.

He said: "I want to play as many games as I can, work hard for the team, obviously contribute with goals and assists, and just show people that I am still the player they remember the first time I played here.

"I never played at the tail end of last season until the play-offs. That's just football, I never got picked to play.

"I am a professional and I just needed to work hard and stick at it, work hard for myself and the team, and I am pretty sure I will show everybody that I am still the same player."

The former Partick Thistle man hopes to bring success to Cappielow after

Having experienced back-to-back promotions with former club Queen's Park, the former Partick Thistle man hopes to bring success to Cappielow in his second spell.

Quitongo said: "It was a successful time at Queen's Park with the back-to-back promotions.

"It was a good time, but football never stops.

"I am now a Morton player, I just want to bring my winning mentality here, and hopefully we can win as many games as possible and see what happens."

The 24-year-old has reassured fans he over his injury problems from his first spell at the club and insists he is fit and ready for the upcoming season.

He added: "I am never actually injured, it is just when I get an injury it has been worse than just a tight hamstring or something like that.

"The injuries are behind me.

"It was just a bit of bad luck and I am ready to start the campaign once we get pre-season out of the way - and I think it will be a good season."
