MORTON boss Dougie Imrie says he hopes to land Livingston forward Jaze Kabia this week after running the rule over the Irishman in his side's friendly draw against Annan.

Goals from captain Kyle Jacobs and Michael Garrity were cancelled out by the Galabankies as Ton's first pre-season warm-up match ended 2-2 at Raydale Park.

Trialist Kabia came on as a substitute in the second half and former Motherwell 'keeper Lawton Green also featured in the final 27 minutes in Saturday's game at Gretna.

After starting his career in Ireland with Cobh Ramblers and Shelbourne, Kabia signed for Livi in 2021 and spent the second half of last season on loan at Falkirk.

New Zealand-born goalkeeper Green graduated from Well's youth academy in June 2021.

Imrie admits his squad is still 'thin' and is hopeful of bolstering his ranks after signing six players so far this summer.

He told the Tele: "We will just need to wait and see what materialises.

"I know the squad is pretty thin at the moment.

"If we could add a couple of players then great, if we can’t then we will just need to go with what we have.

"I know the club are actively working as hard as they can trying to get things done.

"We will just need to wait and see. I would like to add a couple to the squad as I think we are one or two short in certain areas.

"If we can get deals done before the start of the season then great.

"I have worked with Jaze before at Livingston so I know what he can offer.

"We are obviously trying to get him in and hopefully get it done before the weekend.

"Livingston are away on a pre-season trip to Spain at the moment and hopefully we can get the deal done when they get back.

"We also have the young goalkeeper who was at Motherwell last season. We are just assessing both and we'll see what happens over the next couple of days, and the coming weeks with players coming in."

The 38-year-old was pleased with his side's display against Annan as they prepare for their season opener against Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup on July 9.

He said: "The game was a good exercise. Pre-season friendlies are about trying to get minutes into the legs, but over the piece, I was pretty pleased with the performance, especially in the second half.

"We had a lot of chances and just never took them.

"On another day, we could have probably won the game comfortably, but again I'm not really looking too much into that at this moment in time. We're just trying to get the boys up to speed with the game time and match fitness."
