KYLE Jacobs is hopeful that Morton will get a deal over the line for Jaze Kabia after the Livingston winger produced another impressive friendly performance.

The Irishman, who continues to train with Dougie Imrie's squad, was on the scoresheet for the Greenock side as they beat Stenhousemuir 1-0 in a behind closed doors friendly on Tuesday night.

His winner came on the back of a positive impact against Annan Athletic on Saturday and Jacobs is pleased with what he's seen from the 21-year-old so far.

The Morton captain also praised the performance of trialist goalkeeper Lawton Green who came on as a substitute in the second half against the Warriors.

He told the Tele: "It was just the same squad as the Annan game and Jaze got on the scoresheet.

"He came in and he is doing well. Hopefully we can get him signed up.

"I’m not too sure what is happening with him at the minute, but it's good to have him in.

"The young goalie got about 20-30 minutes as well and made a few cracking saves.

"I think he is only 18 so he is still young, but he did well.

"Both of them can be happy with how they played."

The 30-year-old got on the scoresheet with a well-taken volley against Annan in Ton's opening pre-season friendly.

However, the Morton skipper was taken off injured against Stenny on Tuesday.

Jacobs is hopeful it isn't a serious issue and he'll be fit to take on old club Livingston on Saturday.

He said: "It was good for the players to be given a bit more game time.

"I had to come off actually myself. I had a bit of a quad problem, which was disappointing, but hopefully it is not too bad.

"It was good to get minutes, especially seeing some other boys get some more under their belts.

"Now we have the the game against Livi at the weekend and I would imagine the gaffer will want to give more boys 90 minutes. It will be a good game to get us ready for the Falkirk tie.

"I got a goal on Saturday, so I was happy with that, but it is a friendly so it doesn’t really count that much.

"Hopefully I can get few during the season and I want to help out the team wherever I can."

The South African says it's important the players build a winning mentality before the competitive action begins against Falkirk a week on Saturday.

Jacobs said: "The gaffer was saying that we want to get the winning mentality into our heads, regardless of whether it is a friendly or not. It's important to get into that mindset.

"The main thing on Tuesday was going out there to win the game, but also get minutes, learn and gel with the team, then to try and win the game."

Dougie Imrie's side now turn their attentions to the Tony Macaroni Arena to face Livingston and the midfielder knows they will face a big step-up in quality against David Martindale's men.

He said: "No disrespect to Annan and Stenny but it is going to be a much bigger test.

"Livingston have established themselves in the Premiership now. They should have finished top six last year, so we know it is going to be tough.

"I remember playing them in the Championship and it was always tough.

"It will be a good test for us, just to see where we’re at and where the players want to be.

"Everyone wants to play at the highest level, so it will be a good test for us, especially the young boys as well just to get a look and see how Premiership opposition play and what it means to get there."
