MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has stressed he won't let his players get carried away following their shock 3-0 win over Livingston on Saturday.

An own goal from Ayo Obileye followed by a Michael Garrity double saw the Ton leave the Tony Macaroni Arena victorious against David Martindale's men.

The 38-year-old was full of praise for their solid defensive performance as well as their ruthlessness up front.

Victory over Livi sets Ton up nicely for the visit of Falkirk in their Premier Sports Cup Group D opener, but Imrie has today warned his squad there's no place for complacency in his dressing room with the big kick-off just days away.

He told the Tele: "It was pleasing to win against really good opposition.

"We defended really well at times when we had to and we were a threat going forward.

"I know it was three mistakes from Livingston, but you have to capitalise on that and we did.

"Overall with the pre-season games I am delighted that we have come through them undefeated with two wins and a draw.

"For me pre-season is about performances and getting minutes into the legs, and it sets us up now for the real stuff.

"I have got to try and keep them grounded as well. Going to Livingston you are probably not expecting to win 3-0.

"What I don’t want now is for them to turn up for games and think they are going to win, because every game is different, and that will be the case on Saturday."

Imrie praised the impact of his midfield three, including new signing Grant Gillespie, who arrived on a one-year deal from Queen's Park last month.

He said: "At times we really played well. We put our foot on the ball and we passed it.

"The middle three of Grant Gillespie, Cameron Blues and Reece Lyon were really good, especially in the first half, as were the front three or four at times in the press and they forced Livingston into making mistakes.

"We also defended really well. I can only recall once we really got opened up when Scott Pitman should really have scored. He ran off the back of Reece Lyon and Carlo Pignatiello made a fantastic block, and we survived that.

"But overall it was pleasing with the manner of how we went about our business in the games so far in pre-season.

"The boys know what are looking for now. Everybody is starting to go out and do what myself and Andy Millen are looking for from them.

"There are no excuses now, the real stuff starts on Saturday and this is where they need to be counted."

The manager was also full of praise for Ton academy graduate Garrity after his brace at Almondvale.

He said: "Michael Garrity is a talented footballer.

"He is still young, he has a lot to work on on both sides of the game, but for him he will be delighted to get two goals.

"But overall, I think as a team performance it was really good.

"For Michael to get his two goals he needs two of his team-mates to set him up, then Michael has to put them away, which he dually did, but overall, as a team I thought at times we were terrific."

Meanwhile, the Morton boss has dismissed recent rumours linking the club with former Partick Thistle midfielder Robbie Crawford after the 28-year-old was released by the Jags last month.

On the speculation, Imrie said: "It is the first I have heard of it, so you take from that what you want."
