DOUGIE Imrie has urged Morton fans to help get their campaign off to a flying start when they take on Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup this afternoon.

The Ton only lost twice at Cappielow under Imrie last season and the 38-year-old hopes his side can make the Sinclair Street ground a venue opponents dread to visit this term.

Morton welcome the Bairns - now managed by ex-Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn - to Cappielow in the first competitive game of the season.

Imrie has warned his side of the dangers posed by the League One outfit, however, he's hopeful they can make home advantage count with a big crowd behind them.

He told the Tele: "You always want to try and get a run and winning sequence together.

"We have not been beaten in pre-season and we have to continue that. We have a home tie to start off the campaign, so we have to take advantage of that.

"The fans last season were different class, and hopefully again they can come out in their numbers and back us and be that 12th man, because certainly this season at home we want to make Cappielow a fortress and they will help to do that as well with their backing.

"Falkirk have had a change of manager over the summer with John McGlynn going in.

"We know how John likes to play and set his team up. It will be a difficult game, they've brought in a few players, but for us being at home and being in the higher league we need to show that superiority and try and get the three points to make sure we have a good start in the League Cup."

The Ton received a pre-match boost with the loan signing of Jaze Kabia on Thursday from Livingston.

Imrie believes the versatile winger will be a huge asset for his side this season.

He added: "I have got to thank Livingston and David Martindale for giving us Jaze.

"He has helped us out with Brian [Schwake] and getting Jaze as well, so I have got to thank them immensely for doing that.

"He is a player I have worked with before from my time there.

"He is a match winner and he can play in a number of positions.

"We had Gary Oliver who could play in a number of positions last season, so it is good to get someone in similar who can help us in different forward areas."

McGlynn has recruited ex-Ton favourites Stephen McGinn and Gary Oliver this summer.

The Ton boss says today’s opposition have to be treated with respect and has praised his counterpart for his summer signings.

Imrie said: "Falkirk have good players there. John has recruited some very good players, including Gary, Stephen, who was a good player at Kilmarnock last season, and Sean Mackie who was at Hibs, to add to what he already had.

"John himself likes to play an attacking style of football, and they keep the ball.

"It’s got the makings of a good game, but I am not too concerned about what John does, it is about what we do, and that will always be the case.

"We have to be respectful first and foremost to Falkirk and give them the respect that they are due, but being at home we want to win the game."

l IT remains to be seen how many of Dougie Imrie’s seven summer recruits are in line to make their debuts in front of their home fans today.

One player who will have to wait to make his second debut for the club is defender Jack Baird.

The summer signing will miss out on the season opener through suspension from his time at Ayr United.
