SEASON 2022-23 started on Saturday with the League Cup tie against the team all Morton supporters dislike almost as much as St Mirren when a depleted squad went down to Falkirk on penalties.

The match itself wasn’t the worst game you will ever see and gave us a chance to see some of our new additions to the squad play in a competitive match.

I think it’s fair to say that the major talking point at Cappielow wasn’t the result, it wasn’t the sending-offs - even if both could perhaps have been yellows instead of reds - but in fact was the embarrassment of Morton having only one sub!

I know we had a few injuries and suspensions, but surely we could have filled the bench with youngsters from the youth team?

The only other reason I can think of is that the manager was highlighting the lack of players we have signed this season and perhaps alerting the directors we need more signed up.

I personally think we need the directors to let us know if this season's budget has been fully used up.

If that is the case then MCT really do need to get the outside investors onboard immediately otherwise we will justify the bookies' odds of relegation favourites.
