RELIEVED Morton boss Dougie Imrie will welcome back five players to his squad for today's league cup clash against Clyde.

Ton were left looking very threadbare in last weekend's drawn opener against Falkirk and eyebrows were raised when the manager was only able to name one substitute on the bench.

His resources were stretched even further when Jai Quitongo was shown a red card just before half-time.

Imrie will have duo Grant Gillespie and Jack Baird back in the fold today after they completed suspensions.

Those who missed the first competitive game with injury all come back into contention too, with Kyle Jacobs, Darragh O’Connor and Robbie Muirhead all featuring in the closed-doors friendly at Carlisle in midweek.

It's believed the latter may just be lacking the match sharpness to start tomorrow's tie, but he could be involved at some stage.

Imrie has warned his players they must approach today’s clash at New Douglas Park with the right mindset if they want to keep their Group D campaign back on track ahead of a midweek visit to the capital to play Hibs.

Despite today’s opponents having lost their opening two group games, the boss says they can’t be underestimated.

He told the Tele: "It will be a tough game - I went to watch Clyde and Bonnyrigg and it was pretty even.

"Clyde will obviously be hurting after losing that one and we need to go in with the right attitude.

"If we don’t, we’ll fall flat on our face as Clyde have lost their first two games so they’ll be determined to try get a victory on the board."

"We need to go there fully prepared and have in our minds that we are going there to win because anything other than that will give Clyde a lifeline in the game."

Imrie says he will ask his men to take the game to the Bully Wee and go for goals but he is also mindful of their experienced personnel.

He said: "We need to be wary, I know a couple of their lads from playing with them.

"They have Brian McLean, who was with us last season, and Ross Cunningham who I played with at Hamilton, so they have got good players who can hurt you.

"But it is about us as a team.

"We have just got to go into the game with the right mindset.

"Obviously with Clyde being lower league opposition sometimes players won’t be as focused as much as they should - and you see that with results during the week in our cup group, with Falkirk beating Hibs.

"They beat Clyde 5-0 then they go to Falkirk three days later and lose 1-0 - football is a funny old game.

"We don’t want that to happen to us.

"We have got to treat the game properly and we’ll certainly be doing that."

Meanwhile Imrie will be without banned striker Quitongo this afternoon following his red card last Saturday, and defender Alan Lithgow is unavailable too as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
